Sea Isle City Travel Guide

Many of those vacationing in Sea Isle City have only one week in our great town, which is not nearly enough to see it all. The fantastic beaches we offer are only one of many options for fun, sun, and entertainment at the South Jersey Shore. Those of you who have been coming for many years have your favorite things to experience, and most will repeat the majority of things over and over again because of the lasting memories they create.

I realized this back in 1999 when my wife and I opened a Bagel Shop in Sea Isle called Bagelritaville. We offered a great food establishment, with ocean views and a tropical setting. On our first season, we only attracted the locals and those who were down here seasonally. It took to almost our third season before the majority of vacationers, who were only here for one week found us. The reason they would always give was because they only had a limited amount of time here and they always had certain things they wanted to do because of the comfort level they had acquired over the past years of re-visiting the establishments they had so thoroughly enjoyed.

Since I have been a local in Sea Isle City for over ten years, I have had the pleasure to experience many local attractions, eating establishments, and other unique “hidden treasures” that many are not aware of. In the following article, I am going to share some of the other attractions in our area with mention of my favorites. I will start with my hometown, Sea Isle City, and spread out from there. I hope this information is helpful, and if you have questions about any of the places mentioned, please do not hesitate to contact me.

As I stated above, everyone comes to Sea Isle City for the beach. Weather you enjoy riding the waves, lounging in a chair with a good book, or sitting on a deck watching and listening to the calmness of the sea, the ocean is our main attraction. But there are many other activities that are available in our charming town.

Sunrise

For those of you who are early risers, there is nothing better than watching the sunrise over the horizon. On clear days you will see a spectacular two-minute show as the sun makes its appearance and fills the sky with bright colors of oranges, reds, and yellows. I’ve watched the sunrise in Sea Isle well over a hundred times, and I never get bored and I always stop and take in the show. It has a very calming effect on me.

On the Promenade

Another early morning event is a walk, bike ride, or a skate on our promenade. Constructed around 1963, our version of a boardwalk runs from 29th Street to 57th Street and is approximately 1.5 miles from one end to the other. During the summer season, vacationers are permitted to walk the promenade at any time, but biking and skating is permitted from 5:00 AM to 3:00 PM on weekdays, and 5:00 AM to Noon on weekends. When the days are hot and humid, visiting the promenade early morning allows for a good workout and plenty of time for a shower, breakfast, and then you hit the beach. Did you realize that a person weighing 170 lbs can burn over 300 calories while walking the promenade?

Beachcombing Guide

At 10:00 AM on Tuesdays and Thursdays a very interesting, educational opportunity arises. The Sea Isle City Environmental Commission offers “Beachcombing” at the 29th Street beach. For a small donation of $1.00 for adults, and $.50 for children, you will learn facts about the shells, birds, sealife, plants, ocean, and dunes. The City realizes that educating the visitors can help protect and preserve our sensitive seashore environment for future generations to enjoy. So bring your family out and learn while helping to conserve and protect our natural resources.
