As the sun sets...

As the late afternoon comes upon you, for those over “21”, you can’t beat a nice cold tropical drink or beer at the Springfield Inn, the only outside bar where you can listen to a band play, while sipping on your favorite beverage and watching the waves come in. The Carousel Bar, (which was actually a merry-go-round many years ago, and now looks like a tiki hut in the Caribbean), serves tropical drinks, beer, and also serves food. A band normally plays seven days a week, and there is no cover charge to listen to the outside band. The Springfield Inn, which is by far my favorite spot in Sea Isle, is located at 43rd Street and the beach.

After a fun day playing and sunning in the Sea Isle Sand, the evenings can be enjoyed as much as the day. Eating in Sea Isle is an experience in itself, and I’ve written an article on a few of my favorite local spots to enjoy the cuisine of the Island. Many visitors are content after a full day on the beach to shower, eat a wonderful dinner, and sit on their decks and enjoy the fresh air and relaxing atmosphere. Families also enjoy a slow stroll on the promenade with a stop at their favorite ice cream parlor. Sea Isle is known for this.

For those with children, or who want some entertainment, The Sea Isle City Tourism Commission offers weekly summer events starting in late June through mid August. On Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7:30-9:00, there is “Free Summer Concerts Under The Sun”, with various bands that play a different variety of music, depending on the Band. This is a huge crowd pleaser, and you may want to arrive early if you want a seat.

Tuesday evenings are “Free Tuesdays for Tots”. Every week there is something for kids to learn and enjoy. Past events have had clowns, face painting, baby parades, puppet shows, various species of turtles, and many other entertaining events for our youth.

Thursday nights have become a traditional Family Night Dance Party. DJ’s and bands from our area have entertained many and offered a family friendly atmosphere where you can enjoy one another and have memories to take home with you for years to come.

For the over “21” crowd, Sea Isle has many nightspots with a variety of music to suit anyone’s taste. I will be featuring an article on these, as we get closer to the upcoming summer season.

Sea Isle City has many crowd pleasers. As everyone is aware, our beaches are one of the best by far. But as I summed up above, there is much more to do if you care to venture past a beach chair, raft, or a good book.
